3. Yue Dies, Sokka Cries

Yue and Sokka were a great couple, but their relationship did not last long.

Commander Zhao does the unthinkable and kills the moon spirit, despite warnings from Aang and Uncle Iroh. The drama builds as Aang goes into the avatar state and unleashes his fury on the Fire Nation army. Iroh realizes that Yue was touched by the Moon Spirit. Yue says that the Moon Spirit gave her life, and it is her duty to try and give it back. Sokka tries to convince Yue that she doesn’t have to sacrifice herself, but deep down he knows there is no other choice.

Katara: It’s too late. It’s dead. (referring to the dead Moon Spirit fish)
Iroh: You have been touched by the Moon Spirit. Some of its life is in you!
Princess Yue: Yes, you’re right. It gave me life. Maybe I can give it back.
Sokka: No! You don’t have to do that!
Princess Yue: It’s my duty, Sokka.
Sokka: I won’t let you! Your father told me to protect you!
Princess Yue: I have to do this. (She releases his hand. She walks to Iroh, who holds the dead fish in his hands. She puts her palms over the Moon Spirit which begins to glow. She closes her eyes for the last time, exhales a final breath, and falls over into Sokka’s arms.) NO! She’s gone. (He hugs her body tightly) She’s gone.

2. Katara tells her father how she feels

Katara gets emotional with her father

After Katara is finally reunited with her father, she obviously holds some resentment towards him for leaving her and Sokka alone. She makes many awkward passive aggressive comments. After Aang leaves, she finally breaks down and tells her father how she feels in The Awakening.

Katara: He left. Aang. He just took his glider and disappeared. He has this ridiculous notion that he has to save the world alone. That it’s all his responsibility.
Hakota: Maybe that’s his way of being brave.
Katara: It’s NOT brave! It’s selfish and stupid! We could be helping him, and I know the world needs him, but doesn’t he realize how much that we need him too? How could you just leave us behind!? (Pauses, realizing what she has just said. Hakota looks away.)
Hakota: You’re talking about me too, aren’t you?
Katara: (Wipes tears, but more flow down her cheeks.) How could you leave us, Dad? I mean, I know we had Gran-Gran and she loved us, but… but we were just so lost without you.
Hakota: I’m so sorry, Katara. (Katara jumps onto him hugging him.)
Katara: I understand why you left. I really do. And I know that you had to go. So why do I still feel this way? I was so sad, and angry… and hurt.
Hakota: I love you more than anything. You and your brother are my entire world! I thought about you every day I was gone, and every night I would lie awake missing you so much it would ache.

1. Katara and Aang Finally Kiss

The entire ending is fantastic. The music, the characters all tying up their loose ends, everything. After Zuko gives a speech thanking Aang, the gaang is hanging out while Sokka draws something resembling a portrait. Aang and Katara walk out to the balcony overlooking the city. They embrace, step back, and then…. well, take a look!

This movie trailer is posted by Savari07 on Youtube. It’s a trailer made by a fan, featuring music from the Chronicles of Narnia. The publisher did a great job of integrating the music with the scenes from Avatar, especially the parts where the characters are talking. This video really makes me want to see the movie!

Avatar: The Last Airbender Requiem for a Dream Video

I think it’s almost a standard now that there is a “Requiem for a Dream” video produced for any hot movie. The first one I ever saw was a Lord of the Rings version, and I have been hooked ever since. I don’t know what it is about that song, but it makes me want to yell out a war cry. While the production of this avatar requiem for a dream video isn’t quite as good as the avatar movie trailer video above, the song makes up for it . I’m thinking of making my own video soon, so stay tuned for that!

It appears a new Avatar: The Last Airbender commercial will air during the Super Bowl on February 7th.

While some of the general public will be exposed to the Last Airbender for the first time, many fans of the animated Avatar series are highly anticipating the Super Bowl commercial. There has not been much information leaked, or many live action scenes released yet. Some fans, myself included, really don’t know what to expect on July 2, 2010, when M Night Shyamalan’s film will make its debut. This commercial will at least give us a taste of what is to come!

The commercial will air some time during the Super Bowl on February 7, 2010 on CBS.

The images look pretty cool, but seeing these images doesn’t make up for the disappointing announcement that the newest Airbender Trailer is delayed. The images show Aang (Noah Ringer) doing some flying or floating special effects, Aang in his temple surrounded by candles (as seen in the first trailer), and a picture of M Night Shyamalan hanging out by a window.

Shyamalan’s attempt to bring the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender to life has already had some bumps in the road. Besides the Trailer being delayed, there has been some controversy about the cast chosen by Shyamalan to represent some of the main characters. One character of particular concern has been Katara, who will be played by Nicola Peltz. Katara is pretty dark-skinned in the animated series, while Nicola Peltz is very light-skinned. Some fans are not happy with this, and are hopeful that Peltz’s performance can trump the fact that she does not look exactly like the animated Katara.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world divided by four elements; water, air, fire, and earth. There are powerful people in this world who are able to manipulate the elements. The story is about Aang, the Avatar. The Avatar can control all four elements. The Avatar’s duty is to protect the balance of the earth.

Noah Ringer was selected to play Aang after a year-long search

“Typically I’ll find the actor and then mold the part to fit the child, but this was a pre-existing character, and I had to hope that this person existed,” Shyamalan told Variety.

The search for the right child to play Aang was a long and difficult one. Shyamalan needed to find a young, accomplished martial artist. After a year-long search, Shyamalan got lucky and came across Noah Ringer. Ringer heard about an open audition through his tae kwon do club. Shyamalan remarked that he wanted Aang’s character to fit Ringer, instead of the other way around. Because the two seem to be so similar, I think it will work pretty well.

Ringer is a first-degree blackbelt who is proficient with Eastern weapons. He already had a shaved head, just like Aang. One of the things that most drew Shyamalan to Ringer was the fact that Ringer is gentle by nature. He felt it was important for the actor portraying Aang was gentle, because Aang is a lighthearted individual in the Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Airbender Helped Philadelphia's Economy

Pennsylvania offers large tax credits to movie productions done in the state. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is one of 11 productions that took place in Philadelphia this past year. Other films that helped the influx of $500 million include Law Abiding Citizen, and a yet-to-be-determined James L. Brooks production.

The Greater Philadelphia Film Office reports that $3 billion in economic impact has been generated by film production since 1992. This means that this one year ($500 million) represents 17% of total production spanning 16 years! You can bet that M. Night Shamylan’s “Avatar” was a huge reason for this awesome year in Philadelphia film production.
