Noah Ringer will attempt to maintain peace and balance in the world by controlling the elements in Avatar: The Last Airbender

Noah Ringer is the actor who plays Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He has some big shoes to fill, as the Avatar, amirite? Ringer didn’t have any large acting roles prior to the lead role in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He did come well equipped as a badass though; Ringer is a first-degree black belt with proficiency in the use of some eastern weapons.

Background

Though he is an accomplished fighter, Ringer has a gentle calm side to him. That, according to M Night Shyamalan, was one of the reasons that he was able to secure the role of the Avatar. Throughout the animated version of the show on Nickelodeon, Aang often exhibits a calm and playful demeanor. He only is angered when his friends are in danger.

Noah Ringer’s appearance has been the source of some controversy. Many fans are complaining of racebending; they are upset that Aang, who appears to be Asian, is being played by a Caucasian boy. There is similar controversy regarding the roles of Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone).

Discussing the Role of Aang

To Ringer, it’s interesting that so many people are hung up on the race thing. His friends used to actually call him Aang. And I mean, just look at him. Paint a tattoo on his head, and he looks almost exactly like Aang from the cartoon series. Ringer told USA Today:

“Ever since I’ve been shaving my head, everybody has called me Aang. I watched the show because everybody would tell me, ‘You have to watch this cartoon. He looks just like you!’ The movie is definitely different [from the TV series], but if we would’ve done the same thing as the cartoon, what would be exciting about that? It’s fun to change that and do something new.”

Aang’s Duties as Avatar

Ringer’s Character, Aang, is the Avatar. He is made up of spirits of all the other Avatars before him. The Avatar has the ability to perform all 4 of the bending arts: Water, Air, Earth, and Fire. With great power comes great responsibility. The Avatar is tasked with maintaining peace and balance in the world. If the Avatar is defeated, the world will plunge into chaos. Members of the Fire Nation, the Nation which has been waging war with the rest of the world, will stop at nothing to find and destroy the Aang. Aang and his friends Katara, her brother Sokka, Appa and MoMo fly around the world in search of peace.

I really dont understand the problem of The Last Airbender. I never heard of it until now. I watched the TV series and I couldn’t wait to see the movie. The movie was really good, or should I say the best. I began printing pictures of the last airbender and glueing them together to make a poster. The problem is, is that I wont even watch the last two episodes of the last airbender untill they make all three movies!
People just need to be so reasonable these days. It’s not like the movie can make fun of farts like the animated series can, or those wierd faces or the ‘bong! bong!’
Like Noah Ringer said, “but if we would’ve done the same thing as the cartoon, what would be exciting about that? It’s fun to change that and do something new.”
To tell the truth, Noah Ringer inspired me to be a actress, might as well try out as Toph, even though I’m not eight, not blind, not experienced in whatever Toph is doing, and I’m not white, mostly a dark Philippino. But what ever, The Last Airbender movie rocked.

The movie was great… I am very impress with the characters. They play it very well. I agree that adding new thing in the movies, makes it more exciting. I hope the next episodes will be release soon.

I think a lot of people, including myself, thought the movie just wasn’t very well polished. It seemed like a bunch of random events all mashed together. I didn’t mind the fact that they wanted to make it a bit darker, but instead of turning out like lord of the rings or something cool, it turned out to be a mess :(

Yeah I really don’t get all the racebending comments relating to Noah Ringer playing Aang.
